Cargos that exceed the internal

dimension of a standard container are considered as out of gauge (OOG) cargo. Such cargo can still be loaded onto container ships by using special equipments like Flat Rack, and Open Top containers but need to be secured by providing seaworthy lashing, in addition to using special handling devices (spreader bars, slings & wires and so forth) for the lifting and stowage operations. Due to lack of regular break-bulk liner services, container ships are taking place of conventional break-bulk cargo, as most of them are comfortable to carry the cargo weighing up to 100 tons. Empty Flat Rack containers are placed on board followed by loading the cargo through shore crane and secure it on board. Fixed container liner service has an advantage of reaching faster.
